Giovanni Peter Ashman has been named a recipient of the George Thompson Old Boy Award for academic year 2011-2012. He is currently on a partial soccer scholarship at the University of South Carolina, Aiken where he made the Dean’s List for the Fall, 2010 and Spring, 2011 Semesters.
He attended Kingston College from 2001 to 2007 receiving awards each year for academic achievements. He gained nine passes in the CXC exams and three passes in the CAPE exams. In sports, he represented KC at all soccer levels including the Pepsi, Colts and Manning Cup levels, playing an instrumental role in each.
Giovanni’s roots at Kingston College go way back to the 1970’s and 1980’s as practically all his male family members, including uncles, father, cousins and older brother, Dayne Ashman who was the 2006 Jamaica Scholar, attended the school.
The George Thompson Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the Atlanta Chapter in recognition of George T’s remarkable life of dedication to Kingston College. The Scholarship Fund provides two types of awards:
- The KC awards -- For students currently attending Kingston College
- The Old Boys’ awards -- For past students attending college or university
The scholarship fund is supported by donations and proceeds from the Annual Scholarship Fund Dance held each December by the Atlanta Chapter of the KCOBA.
