Lennox Graham Named 2011 Ciaa Outdoor Women’S Track & Field Coach Of The Year

Newport News, VA - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) has announced Lennox Graham as the CIAA Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year as elected by the CIAA Track and Field Coaches Association. Graham was named Women’s Indoor Coach of the Year in 2010 and Women’s Outdoor Coach of the Year in 2009. The award was issued at the CIAA Annual Spring Meeting held at the Newport News Marriott on May 24th.

Graham, in his just his fourth season as head coach, has led the Lady Golden Bulls Track and Field team to a history-making season. After finishing second at the CIAA Indoor Championships, JCSU followed by claiming their first ever conference outdoor championship. Senior Shermaine Williams (St. Andrew, Jamaica) was named MVP at both the indoor and outdoor championships.

Johnson C. Smith recorded 153 points to win the 2011 CIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship. J.C. Smith finished in the top five in several events and won titles in the 100m dash, 100m hurdles, Long Jump, and the 4x100m relay. In addition to excelling athletically, the team achieved in the classroom as well; JCSU won the CIAA Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Highest Team GPA Award with grade point average of 3.30.

Under Coach Graham’s tutelage this year, Xahnn-Georgia Reid was selected as the 2011 DII Women's Atlantic Region Field Athlete of the Year and Larry Moore was named the Women's Assistant Coach of the Year.

Seven student-athletes from the women’s outdoor team were selected to the USTFCCCA Outdoor All-Region Team for their performances throughout the season. Those same seven (Naffene Briscoe, Rosemarie Carty, Monique Kelly, Xahnn-Georgia Reid, Lakaevia Tyler, Danielle Williams, and Shermaine Williams) will represent Johnson C. Smith at the 2011 NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by California State University Stanislaus in Turlock, CA on May 26-28.
