The tributes have been pouring in at the very sad news of the passing of Ivan “Wally” Johnson, the beloved former Acting Principal of Kingston College and KC Old Boy.
Many recall the positive and pleasant disposition that “Mr. Johnno,” as he was affectionately called, carried with him around the KC campus. His “genuine care” and encouraging words are mentioned as well as the fact that he was “always smiling.”
We have published a few of the many tributes in this edition. “Mr. Johnno” has joined “Bishop” and “Dougs “who from their labors rest in the purple section of heaven. May he Rest in Peace.
Elections were recently held in the Atlanta and Toronto chapters. Anthony Williams succeeded Glen Laman as Atlanta’s president and Lawrence Prendergast was returned to a second term in Toronto’s election. These events are reported elsewhere in this month’s edition.
We have a few pictures from two projects currently underway at KC: the Rujohn Foundation sponsored pavilion refurbishment and the KC financed field fencing and landscaping. Both are under the supervision of the new Plant Manager, Robert Kelly.
The pavilion is scheduled for completion and opening to coincide with the 2011 Roper Cup which will be hosted at Kingston College this year.
Several Atlanta members met Dr. Marcia Forbes, the Guest speaker at the Atlanta Jamaican Independence Ball held recently. It turns out her husband is a KC Old Boy. We hope to profile him in an upcoming issue but this month we are publishing an interview with the Dr. Forbes herself.
Happy reading!
