Atlanta chapter President, Anthony Williams, and Secretary, Glen Laman, recently visited Woodland Middle School in East Point, Georgia to meet with Principal, Andre Wright and Assistant Principal, Vivian Randolph, in preparation for the upcoming Super-Science Weekend which will be held on Saturday, October 29th 2011.
Approximately 400 Elementary and Middle school students from various schools in the surrounding area will converge on Woodland Middle School for a full day of activities designed to “make science fun.”
A key element of the weekend will be the emphasis on learning by doing. Sessions will include many hands on projects to get the young students actively participating. Presenters will include science students from local universities such as Spellman College.
This is the third year that the Atlanta chapter has been involved in this popular annual event. The chapter joins two other sponsors of the event: the restaurant chain, Chic-Fil-A and the Atlanta chapter of the National Association of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers.
The Atlanta chapter will also be a sponsor of Woodland’s annual Science Fair which takes place in February, 2011.
