Since 2010, Magnificent Chess Foundation, (chaired by Ian G. Wilkinson, Attorney-at-law and former Vice-President of the Kingston College Old Boys' Association) has taught Chess at the Melbourne Campus of Kingston College. The programme was greeted with tremendous enthusiasm by the students and the staff. As a result, the Acting Principal Mr. Everton Burrell and Vice-Principal Mrs. Marguerita Douglas-Hall agreed that the programme should be "institutionalized". Consequently, Chess (called or treated as the subject "Critical Thinking Skills") has been placed on the time-table and all eight (8) First Forms (approximately 320 students) are taught weekly.
The Vice-Principal Mrs. Douglas-Hall is excited at the positive changes in the school as a result of the programme and the motivational talks that Mr. Wilkinson and other Chess coaches, such as Mr. Leon Bennett, give to the students. The programme is solely funded by Mr. Wilkinson who has indicated that the Kingston College fraternity has to come on board in order to prevent its termination.
The MCF is hoping to partner with the school administration, parents, friends and well-wishers to extend the programme to other Forms due to the interest which is being shown.
