Barrington John Reckord, pioneering playwright died at age 85 in Jamaica on December 20, 2011.
Reckord was born in Kingston and attended Kingston College from where he went on to study theology at St Peter's College, Kingston, in 1948. He won the Issa scholarship in 1950 to study English at Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
He was best known for his work capturing race and class in 1960's Britain. His plays were produced in London, New York and Jamaica, where he was nationally recognized with a silver Musgrave medal in 1973 for his contribution to playwriting.
