The Annual General Meeting of KCOBA USA, Inc. was held on Sunday, July 10, 2016 in the Bronx, New York. As usual, there was an air of anticipation as the membership looked forward to electing the officers and directors of the association.

The outgoing President, Rainford ‘Perry’ Bloomfield, chaired the first section of the meeting, which commenced with the Fortis prayer done by Director, Norman Scott. The President relayed Principal, Dave Myrie’s, greetings and the President thanked the Board of Directors for their volunteerism, which guided the association through another successful year. This was followed by the reading and confirmation of the Minutes from the last AGM and the Minutes from the most recent board meeting. The officers and committee chairpersons presented their annual reports followed by the President’s report. President Bloomfield related the year in review as he highlighted some of the association’s major projects: KC Library & Technology Capital Campaign, Scholarship Program, Nutrition Program, Prize Giving, and FortisCare Backpack. During and after the President’s presentation, members asked questions and made general comments about the different topics, covered. Prior to stepping aside, President Bloomfield once again, thanked everyone including the association’s sponsors, members, family, and friends who have supported the association throughout the year. The meeting recessed for food, drinks, and socializing facilitated by Director, Greg Arscott.

The chairman of the nominating committee, Mr. Ansell Barrett, directed the second section of the meeting: the election. Mr. Barrett’s job was fairly agreeable as all the officers, except for the 1st Vice-president, were re-elected unopposed. The outgoing Vice-president, Mr. Jermoth ‘Bobby’ Dixon, retired and is relocating. Mr. Everton Howell was unanimously elected as the 1st VP and his vacated post of 2nd VP was filled by Clive Davidson. The open directorship positions were filled by two (2) returning directors and the association welcomed three (3) newly elected directors: Messrs. Courtney Richardson, Dwayne Montaque, and Alvadio Golding. Congratulations to all elected officers and directors, and a special warm and energetic welcome to our new directors.

The Board of Directors would like to thank all the members who came to the meeting and exercised their rights. Again, the membership voted for continuity, which is an affirmation of President Bloomfield and his team. Rest assured, the team does not take this vote for granted, and as such, we will continue to work hard to support and promote Kingston College and all its stakeholders. Recently, the association has seen a significant drop in paid membership, which has affected our ability to do more for our beloved, ‘College’. Fortis family, your support of dues, contributions, and attendance to our fundraisers are the association’s only sources of income. Accordingly, we must continue to champion the cause by: paying our annual dues, contributing to the ongoing programs at KC, and supporting the fundraisers. The reality is that the needs are plenty and they are unceasing.

The KCOBA chapters play an essential role in the continuing development at Kingston College, and yes, KC is moving up. We need all hands on board to continue to fuel this momentum. Hence, join us or the local KCOBA chapter nearest to you. As Fortisians, we all want to see KC continue to rise, let us all play our part. Fortis!!!

It will upgrade the Libraries and Technology Resource Centers of Kingston College, which involves the completion of the Douglas Forrest Building with much needed additional classrooms.
