The Annual General Meeting of KCOBA USA, Inc. was held on Sunday, July 14, 2019 in the Bronx, New York. It was a welcome sight to see some new faces and some returning faces as the membership prepared to elect the officers and directors of the association. The stage was set for another afternoon of passionate, but productive discourse. The proceedings was split into two sections: General Meeting & Elections.
The outgoing President, Rainford ‘Perry’ Bloomfield, chaired the meeting, which commenced with the usual formality such as the Fortis prayer, roll call, and the reading of the Minutes from the previous AGM. The reports of the officers and chairpersons of the committees were presented. The meeting’s agenda was completed, and prior to stepping aside, President Bloomfield thanked everyone including the association’s sponsors, members, family, and friends who have supported the association throughout the year. The meeting recessed for food, drinks, and a little socializing, while the nominating committee started its machinery.
Mr. Alimi Banjoko, with the assistance of Mr. Jefferyson ‘Jeff’ Barnes expertly managed the elections. The task was fairly straightforward as all the officers were re- elected unopposed. Five (5) directors were elected, which including three (3) returning directors, one person who previously served on the board, and one person who is totally new to the board. Mr. Winston Henry was welcomed to the board for the first time and Mr. Barrington Burke-Green re-joined after a hiatus. Congratulations to all elected officers and directors, and gentlemen, we have work to do.
The Board of Directors would like to thank all the members who came to the meeting and participated in the process. Again, the membership voted for continuity, which is an affirmation of President Bloomfield and his team. Rest assured, the team does not take this vote for granted, and as such, we will continue to work hard to fulfill the mission of supporting and promoting KC. The association and, by extension, Kingston College had a very successful year. KC impressively won the two most prestigious school boys trophies: The ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup and the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ & Girls’ Athletics Championships (CHAMPS). Additionally, the institution won multiple other football and sporting titles, including an undefeated Colts team (U16 football champions). Notably, the boys also excelled in academic pursuits, the school received very good CSEC and CAPE results, and this was complemented with being crowned the Kiwanis Debate champions, as well as, being runners-up in the Schools’ Challenge Quiz.
Fortis family, KCOBA International (All KCOBA Chapters) is the third largest contributor (financially etc.) to KC, only behind the government’s contribution and tuition. Accordingly, your continued involvement in KCOBA USA Inc. and the other chapters play an essential role in the continuing development at Kingston College. Right now, the institution is trying to finish one of its most ambitious projects in recent times: The Douglas Forrest Building, which will house 4 computer labs and additional classroom space. The plan is to get the building functional by school re-opens in September, 2019. Support now at https://kcobausa.org/capitalcampaign/.
