The Atlanta chapter’s Dr. Glen Laman was among three Old Boys honored at the Kingston College 2019 Prize-giving Ceremony held at the Jamaica Conference Center in downtown Kingston on Friday, December 6, 2019.
Also honored were Dr. Wayne Fraser president of KCOBA Florida and Rainford “Perry” Bloomfield president of KCOBA New York.
Glen is a former president of the Atlanta chapter and is the editor of the KC Times a newsletter for the KC community.
The festive affair featured awards to several hundred students for good work and academic excellence as well as awards for hockey, cricket, table tennis, track, cadet unit, rugby and swimming. Awards were also presented to the victorious 2019 Champions Cup Football team which became the first team to win the cup more than once. Also featured were the victorious 2018 Colts football team.
The Dr. Lloyd McLean MVP award went to Rodgers Aryamanya 'Ari Rodgers."
Special awards included the PTA prize for public spirit, several awards for citizenship from the Toronto chapter, and the Shelley and Audley Hewett Scholarships.
Top students who placed in the top 10 nationally and regionally for CSEC and CAPE exams were awarded as well as those students who achieved distinctions in various subjects.
Awards of appreciation were presented to 10 teachers at the school.
In a surprise award, the student body presented principal Myrie with a special portrait. It was an emotional moment which brought the principal to tears and the crowd to its feet amid thunderous applause.
Many parents and guardians were on hand to cheer the celebrants as they collected their trophies.
