“I am happy for the boys, and although Champs was cancelled due to the corona virus, they trained hard and performed well at the various meets including, but not limited to the Gibson-McCook Relays in February”, said head track coach, Leford Grant.
The scholarships again underscores KC’s solid academic foundation, as the athletes were not only able to excel athletically, but obviously had to have the educational proficiency to meet the academic criteria in order to qualify for the scholarships. As such, the school, under the visionary leadership of Principal Dave Myrie, has clearly returned to consistently preparing true scholar-athletes in the proud tradition of, among, others, Mabricio Ventura, Lennox Miller, Tony Keyes, and Neville Oxford.
“I am really pleased by the number of boys who received scholarships as we endeavor to prioritize education while producing rounded students, so this is a testimony of what KC”, says Principal Myrie.
“We are an academic institution that happens to also do well in athletics”, adds Principal Myrie.
Notable scholarship recipients include track and football star and Ugandan national, Ari Rodgers, who will join the long distance corps of the famous Grambling State University in Louisiana; a Champions Cup winner and All Schools center half, Kobe Simpson, who will matriculate at the University of Maryland; Alrick Davis who received an academic scholarship from Howard University; and Lacrosse team captain, Samuel Henry, who will become a pioneer as the first Jamaican to play lacrosse at Missouri Valley College.
“We continue to build our ongoing relationship with the University of Maryland, and we managed to secure scholarships for several KC students over the last few years. We are confident that Kobe and Roshaun will take full advantage of the opportunity, and vindicate the confidence we have placed in them”, says the legendary Audley Hewitt of the KCOBA Florida Chapter.
The worldwide KC fraternity congratulates the scholarship recipients, and wish them continued success both on and off the field.
The scholarships will commence in the 2020 Fall semester.
