The RuJohn Foundation is responding to the Covid-19 crisis in Jamaica by working with the Alfred Street Baptist Church to provide needed supplies and tablets.
The foundation has provided over 300 care packages to students across nine different schools throughout the Island. The schools benefiting are Mt. Peto Primary and New Day Basic School located in St. James; Ananda Marga, Franklin Town; Trench Town Primary, Operation Restoration and Kingston College in Kingston; Unity Primary in Manchester; and Copper Basic School in the Parish of St. Catherine.
Digital Scans were delivered to eight schools, 4,500 masks, antibacterial soaps, toothpaste, and toothbrushes as essential items for the Pandemic, while Tablets and reading books were donated to assist in education.
All the care packages included the following items:
- Corned beef
- Baked Beans
- Shell Macaroni
- Flour
- Sugar
- Cornmeal
- Festival Cookies
- Ketchup
- Condensed Milk
- Syrup
- Vegetable Oil
- Chicken Sausages
- Mixed Vegetables
- Milk powder
- Rice
50 tablets will be given to students who attend KC and over 150 KC students and family members will receive care packages.
The president of the foundation Christina Bachelor explains, “My brother and I started this foundation when we were just teenagers and are happy to have seen it grow. We are equally happy and blessed to have great sponsors like Alfred Street Baptist Church, which has gone beyond their doors to help our beautiful Island of Jamaica.”
The RuJohn Foundation began in 2003 in honor of Ruth and John Tulloch, the grandparents of CEO Andrew Bachelor and President Christina Bachelor. Their father, Byron Bachelor is a KC Old Boy.
The RuJohn Foundation’s mission to provide the necessary tools for education to schools throughout Jamaica, and select cities in the United States.
Andrew Bachelor also credits the Alfred Street Baptist Church which has used their initiative, “Tithe-the-Tithe,” to allow this project to happen. Andrew (King Bach) says, “We hope to serve as an inspiration for youths in Jamaica and here in the United States community as well; we want them to know that they are never too young to achieve their dreams.”
The Alfred Street Baptist Church is located in Alexandria VA, under the leadership of Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Howard-John Wesley.
