There was jubilation at the Kingston College (KC) compound on North Street the Monday morning after Champs as students celebrated the school’s record extending 34th Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships title.
KC lifted the Mortimer Geddes trophy inside the National Stadium after finishing 67 points better than second-placed Jamaica College
The celebrations started with students marching from the Melbourne campus to the compound on North Street amid the beating of drums and blowing of trumpets.
The students then participated in a devotion where KC principal Dave Myrie lauded the successful athletes.
“I have said it over and over again, never bet against Kingston College, don’t do that,” Myrie said, sending a stern message to some analysts who had predicted that the champions would have been dethroned.
Other speakers at the celebrations were school chaplain Michael Brown, and past students Audley Hewett and Justice Minister Delroy Chuck.
The Jamaica Observer’s Joseph Wellington was at North Street to capture the celebrations.
