Roper Cup Returns to Clovelly Park
By Richard Lindsay
The return of the Roper Cup to Clovelly Park marked a truly special day for all involved. After a decade-long absence, Principal Myrie's approval allowed the Kingston College Old Boys Association - Jamaica to bring back this historic competition to our beloved Clovelly Park.
The 59th year of the Roper Cup retained the same format that had been cherished in prior years. However, one significant change was made; the Under/Over 35 teams were replaced by Under/Over 40 teams.
The day featured five exhilarating games, each with its own unique trophy at stake:
In addition to the thrilling matches, this year's event introduced a special after-party at Hardy House. This gathering was filled with nostalgia, held in the midst of the iconic Lignum Vitae Trees. It provided an excellent opportunity for the Old Boys of Kingston College and St. Georges College to come together and share in the camaraderie that has defined this competition over the years.
Despite St. Georges College winning all the trophies on the day, Roper Cup 59 was undeniably a grand success. The spirit of competition, sportsmanship, and the rekindling of old friendships made it a day to remember.
Looking ahead, we eagerly anticipate our return as hosts in 2025, coinciding with Kingston College's momentous 100th-anniversary celebration. It promises to be an even more significant and memorable occasion, further cementing the legacy of the Roper Cup.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants, supporters, and organizers who made Roper Cup 59 such a resounding success. Your dedication to this historic event ensures its continued prominence in the years to come.
