THE DIOCESE of JAMAICA & THE CAYMAN ISLANDS
PRESS RELEASE
The Right Reverend E. Don Taylor, an Old Boy of Kingston College and a former headmaster will celebrate the Fiftieth Anniversary of his Ordination to the Sacred Priesthood at celebrations to mark the occasion over the weekend of October 7, 8, and 9. The Lord Bishop of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands will celebrate his Fiftieth Anniversary with Bishop Taylor. They were both Ordained Deacons at the same time on St. Matthew’s Day 1960 and a year later they were ordained to the Sacred Priesthood.
Bishop Taylor was ordained as Deacon and Priest by his former headmaster and mentor, the Right Reverend Percival William Gibson D.D. He has served at St. Mary’s Church, Molynes Road, Kingston, at Kingston College as headmaster, and later in the United States where for fifteen years he was the Vicar Bishop for New York City. He returned to Jamaica in June of 2009 to become the Rector of the historic Kingston Parish Church where he now serves.
The celebrations are being directed by a committee under the chairmanship of Mr. Oliver Clarke, the Managing Director of the Gleaner Company Limited. The events will be a Black Tie Dinner at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Friday evening October 7 at 6:30 p.m.; a Diocesan Mass of Thanksgiving on Saturday morning, October 8 at ten o’clock, at the Kingston Parish Church: and both Bishops will offer their own personal thanksgivings at a special Eucharist on Sunday morning, October 9.
The Special Eucharist being offered by Bishop Taylor in thanksgiving for his fifty years of Ministry will be held at the Kingston Parish Church, beginning at 8:00 a.m. All Kingston College Old Boys are encouraged to join Bishop Taylor on Sunday morning, October 9 and wherever possible to wear their Kingston College ties. Everyone is invited to attend.
