KC Student Gifton Wright was mentioned by ESPN anchor Sage Steele on SportCenter’s Top 10 segment June 2, 2012. Gifton won many hearts with his 4th place finish in the Scripps National Spelling Bee competition in Washington, DC that week.
SportsCenter is a daily sports news television show and the flagship program of the American cable network ESPN. Sage Steel is the vivacious weekend anchor of the weekend version of the popular sports program.
Here is what Sage had to say about Gifton:
“What a pleasure it was to meet Gifton at the Scripps National Spelling Bee! It is very rare that a 14 year old boy resonates the way Gifton did during his week in Washington, DC, it was amazing to watch! I can only imagine how proud Jamaicans must be of Gifton! He was a household name across the country - Americans were in awe of his manners and calm nature on national television. I, too, am proud of Gifton's accomplishments, and look forward to hearing more great things about him in the future! “
Gifton clearly made an impression on all who saw him in action at the Spelling Bee Championship. He represented Jamaica and KC with grace. We wish him continued success in all his future endeavors.
