This year has been a productive year for the Atlanta chapter as we were able to meet our usual commitments as well as fund several new requests.
The following is a recap of what the Chapter funded either fully or partially for the 2011 – 2012 year:
- George Thompson Scholarship Fund
- School's Challenge Quiz Team
- Kingston College Chapel Choir Washington, DC Trip
- Kingston College Trust Fund Donation
- Spelling Bee Support
- Woodland Middle School Science Project (East Point, Atlanta)
- Key Club Support
While KC is the primary focus of the chapter, we also assist other organizations in the Atlanta community as part of our community outreach program. We were able to assist other alumni chapters such as Clarendon College, St. Hugh's High School and St. Andrew High School in their fund raising efforts.
We are also involved with the Jamaica 50th – Atlanta Planning Committee in planning activities for metro Atlanta in celebration of Jamaica's 50th independence anniversary. We continue to provide funding to Woodland Middle School in the Atlanta Metro Area to assist them in their annual participation in the Georgia Science fair competition.
Professor Vasciannie's recent report brings to the fore the dire funding gap for the various activities at KC. I am sure the various stakeholders at KC would agree that the breadth and strength of KC in academics and extra-curricular activities must be maintained in spite of the budget shortfall.
Earlier this year, the heads of the overseas Chapters and I agreed that another summit is overdue and we will schedule one for next year. Professor Vasciannie's report has upped the stakes in the importance of that summit. We will work together to maintain KC's usual high standards.
