The Kingston College Chapel Choir had a very successful concert at the UWI Chapel on Sunday, December 22, 2013.

This was our most ambitious and most expensive concert to date. The music chosen by  Choir Director, Audley Davidson was challenging; it required many hours of rehearsal but in the end was well worth the effort. The attendance was very good. We placed chairs for extra seating, which is now standard for this concert.

The performances were very well received and the feedback from the audience was very positive. They expressed appreciation for an excellent evening of music.

The decorations, chairs and tables were provided free of cost by Carol Gray-Smyle who has been doing this job for the BOJ sponsored University Singers Christmas Concert which is always held on the Wednesday evening before our Concert.

The Guest sopranos on Sunday were Danielle Watson and Raehann Bryce-Davis.

The performance of Raehann Bryce-Davis was a pleasant surprise for the audience - she has Jamaican connections. She was born in Mexico of Jamaican parentage and was recently hailed by the New York Times as a “striking mezzo-soprano that sang and spoke potently and moved vivaciously.” Her aunt Michelle Bromley is the organist at St. George's Church on East Street and she is also related to the late Teddy McCook.

The UWI concert was the second in a four-performance season which began at the Church of the Conversion of St. Paul in Greater Portmore on Saturday, December 21, 2013.  Additional concerts were at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin on Molynes Road and St John’s Anglican Church Hall in Ocho Rios.

The Choir Committee decided to honor Teddy McCook's memory with a scholarship in his name. His invaluable contribution as a Choir Committee member was not widely known Chairman of the Kingston College Chapel Choir Committee, Dr. Robert Wan presented the cheque for $50,000 to Grade 8 chorister, Salim Chung, during the intermission. His selection was based on grades, attendance at rehearsals and commitment to the choir.

The list of attendees included: The Lord Bishop of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Howard Gregory & Mrs. Gregory; the  Suffragan Bishop of Kingston,the Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert Thompson & Mrs. Thompson, the Custos of St. Andrew,the Hon. Marigold Harding and her husband - Past President of the Senate and KCOB the Hon.  Professor Oswald ‘Ossie’ Harding, KC’s Principal, Dave Myrie; Chairman of the KC Development Trust Fund, Woodburn ‘Woody” Miller.

Also in attendance were former Vice Principal, Helen Douglas, Ambassador Anthony Johnson, President of the KC Old Boys’ Association of Jamaica, Dr. Patrick Dallas and Vice Principal Everton Burrell. 

We were also happy to be joined by Noel Dexter, Founder and immediate Past Musical Director of the world renowned University Singers who has also written several Jamaica Hymns, Christmas carols and other pieces, and by Donald Morris a Kingston College Old Boy and former chorister himself and who is also a former Director of the Kingston College Chapel Choir. He currently resides in New Jersey, USA where he is the Director of the Newark Boys' Choir. 

Dr. Robert Wan is the Chairman of the Kingston College Chapel Choir. He is a KC Old Boy and renowned Urologist in Jamaica.
