Atlanta KCOB Glendon Thompson has been appointed a council member of the Chongqing International Exchange Association.  He was presented with his certificate and emblems recently by representatives of the association.

Glendon is well known for his association with China and is best known as the first person to open a Jamaican Restaurant in China (http://www.kcobaatl.org/2007/dec/article1.htm).

His appointment provides access to the Chongqing government and bodes well in regards to business and cultural interactions with the city.

According to Wikipedia, Chongqing was formerly known as Chungking and is a major city in Southwest China. It is one of the five national central cities in the People's Republic of China. It has a population estimated at 7 million with the metro area estimated at 28 million.

Administratively, Chongqing is one of the PRC's four direct-controlled municipalities (the other three are Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin), and the only such municipality in inland China. This means that Chongqing has special privileges within the central government. It is being developed by the central government with its "Go West Strategy" as the gateway into central, southern and western China, with 70% of China's land area and around 450,000,000 people.
