Basil Waite, former secretary of KCOBA Jamaica and a former Assistant Editor of the KC Times passed on to the next life on September 6, 2019.

He was a popular champion of all things KC and admired by many for his fervor and the passion he displayed for the causes he believed in.

According to Lance Seymour, former president of KCOBA Toronto, “Basil was a vital conduit enabling the flow of information between the chapter and those on the ground in Jamaica. He was a true Fortis who saw it as his duty to assist our efforts to help the school in whatever way possible. Basil had a quick wit and his email exchanges with Ray Ford were akin to a sparring match between two boxers known for throwing jabs. He was most knowledgeable on all things KC and will be sorely missed. May his soul rest in peace.”

Ronnie Chin remembers him as “one of my greatest supporters of acquiring Info and photos for the KCOBA - JA Fortis Forever Newsletter, a dynamic Fortis.”

Basil was indeed a fountain of knowledge about happenings at KC. He was also a facilitator of KCOBA USA matters in Jamaica. He was a prolific writer and for several years a frequent contributor to the KC Times.

He once worked for the Jamaica Bauxite Institute and more recently as an insurance adjuster with Crawford and Company.

He is survived by his son Oji who also attended KC and daughter Nkechi Waite.
