Fortis Nation Archives was established a year ago to recreate and document the history of Kingston College - electronically. Continuing on that mandate, we have expanded our archivival thrust with the launch of the Fort Nation Archives Icons Page on Facebook on April 16, 2020. As noted KC Historian, Jimmy Richards, aptly stated while heralding this new page, “Written history is important to any institution’s progress”.
Significance of the Fortis Nation Archives Icon Page
The Fortis Nation Archives Icons Page is a complimentary page to the Fortis Nation Archives Page. The Page was established as a dedicated page to highlight persons (and perhaps objects too) who have contributed to, represented or served Kingston College in a exemplary way. And of note, the objective is to go beyond just the stereotypical classification of Icon and unearth those who, in their small or seemingly insignificant way, have impacted the lives of many who attended Kingston College. As the adage goes, “it takes a village to raise a child” the belief is that there are many “villagers” who played a pivotal role in shaping the lives of thousands of persons who passed though the gates of Kingston College and they, along with the others, should be highlighted for their contributions no matter what shape or form it took.
The need for the Icon Page was prompted by the overwhelming support of the Unsung Heroes’ feature on Fortis Nation Archives. That feature stole the spotlight on the page as persons reminisce on the varying ways that these “Unsung Heroes” impacted their lives.
There is currently a comprehensive list of persons who have earned the title of Icon and, no doubt, many more to come. However, for the launch of the Page, we started with twelve (12) but we will upload additional Icons to the Page periodically. The masterplan is to unearth as many Icons as possible and recognized them on the Fortis Nation Archives Icons Page.
