“In a world where sports often rules, Alvin Binns is one athlete who knows when to run and when to read.” This was the opening line from an article in Alabama State University’s college paper ASU Today not that many years ago.
Alvin Binns is the current president of the KCOBA Atlanta chapter.
He is a graduate of Alabama State University where he majored in Mathematics. He would go onto earn a Master of Science in Biostatistics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Today he is the Chief Statistician for Blue Cross BlueShield. He is also a real estate investor in the Birmingham Area.
As a child, he was interested in soccer and got into track by pure accident. One day as he was playing soccer at Kingston College the track coach noticed his running ability and asked him to try out for the track team. He went on to represent KC in 1500, 800 and the 4x400 relay.
It was while competing at the Penn relays one year that Alabama State’s track coach offered him a full athletic scholarship to the university.
While in college, Alvin amassed an enviable list of athletic accomplishments. He was an All American Scholar Athlete and an All Southwestern Athletic Conference Arthur Ashe Scholar. He held ASU’s all time two mile relay record.
Today Alvin maintains a keen interest in Track & Field matters and keeps the Atlanta members abreast of developments in track in Jamaica.
