RIP Oswald Lyon

Oswald (Ossie) Stuart Lyon passed away peacefully at his residence in Maitland, Fl. on Sept. 28, 2020 at 9:03 am.

Born Feb. 5, 1925 in Kingston, Jamaica W.I., son of Oswald Augustus & Una Isabel Lyon, he lived a full and healthy life to 95+ years.

He worked initially as a Civil Servant in his homeland Jamaica before working at Lannaman's Candy Company and then became the Personnel Manager of Trelawny Estates (Long Pond), a subsidiary of Seagram's Canadian whiskey firm, which was followed by his employment as Human Resources & Development Manager of the Water Commission in Jamaica.

Ossie migrated with his wife, Athline (nee Myers) to the USA in 1978 where he became a Life Insurance Agent with New York Life and then worked as an SBLI agent representative for Apple Bank in New York.

In 1998 he fully retired and moved to Maitland, Fl. where he enjoyed engaging in his favorite pastimes of playing Duplicate Bridge, going to watch live Jai Alai and Horseracing simulcasts and spending quality time with his beloved family.

Ossie had 2 children, daughter Sandra and son Robyn (deceased), 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

A former athlete who represented Jamaica at the Pan American Games, Commonwealth Games and Central American & Caribbean Games, he held the High Jump record for Jamaica at one point.

Ossie attended high school at Kingston College and received a Track & Field Scholarship to attend University in the USA where he later converted this scholarship into an Academic one. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University and his Master's Degree from the University of Nebraska.

One of his proudest accomplishments was being able to institute an Athletic Scholarship Program for promising athletes in the Trelawny area while in his capacity as Personnel Manager at Trelawny Estates.

Ossie was the eldest of 8 children with siblings Ronald (Ronnie) (deceased), Maurice (Morris) (deceased), Edward (Eddie), Louise, Audley, Audrey (Plum) (deceased) and Howard.

May he rest in peace!
