Glen Laman and Dr. Basil Kong have published a book of 15 Jamaican short stories. The Hero of Fern Gully and Other Jamaican Short Stories is the result of a project they undertook during the Coronavirus pandemic when much of the world was under lockdown.

Laman is a former president of the KC Old Boys Association of Georgia and previously wrote the highly acclaimed book, Jamaican Entrepreneurship: A Review of the Characteristics, Traits and Ideas of the Island’s Successful Entrepreneurs.

Kong is the former CEO of the Association of Black Cardiologists and was a guest speaker at the Atlanta Chapter banquet in 2010. He is the author of Bad Boy from Jamaica: the Garnett Myrie Story.

The short stories in The Hero of Fern Gully and Other Jamaican Short Stories provide insights into the everyday pursuits of ordinary Jamaicans as they struggle to make a way in this world.

Some stories may make you laugh, and others may bring a tear. Readers who grew

up in the 1950s and 1960s can also relate to a bygone era when life was simpler, and people were poor but dignified. Despite many hardships, Jamaicans are a happy and hospitable people.

In the end, the authors hope you will come away with a better appreciation and understanding of

the Jamaican spirit.
