Renowned Jamaican sculptor Basil Watson, now residing in Atlanta, has been named among the distinguished awardees in Kingston College's Centenary Alumni list.

His award is in the category of Excellence in Arts and Culture.

Watson, celebrated for his evocative public monuments that honor Jamaican and global icons, is a proud alumnus of Kingston College, having attended from 1969 to 1976. His illustrious career includes the creation of statues commemorating figures such as Usain Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and Louise Bennett. Notably, he was commissioned by the City of Atlanta to sculpt a statue of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., which now stands prominently on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive near the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Joining Watson in this prestigious recognition are two fellow members of the Kingston College Old Boys Association (KCOBA) Georgia Chapter: Alvin Binns and Dr. Glen Laman. They are both named in the category of Service to Kingston College.

Binns is the current president of the chapter. He represented KC in 1500, 800 and the 4x400 relay. It was while competing at the Penn relays one year that Alabama State's track coach offered him a full athletic scholarship to the university.

While in college, Alvin amassed an enviable list of athletic accomplishments. He was an All-American Scholar Athlete and an All-Southwestern Athletic Conference Arthur Ashe Scholar. He held ASU's all-time two-mile relay record.

Dr. Laman, a former president of the chapter, is also an accomplished author who wrote the book Jamaican Entrepreneurship and co-authored the collection The Hero of Fern Gully and Other Jamaican Short Stories .

The full list of awardees spanning the school's 100-year history was revealed at the Centenary Banquet held at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica on April 16, 2025.

The inclusion of these distinguished individuals in the centenary alumni list underscores the global impact of Kingston College's alumni, particularly those contributing significantly within the Jamaican diaspora in the United States.
