Our recent Fish Fry event was well on its way to surpassing last year's success, thanks to enhanced planning, improved logistics, and the unwavering dedication of our organizing team. From food preparation to event setup and customer service, every element was executed with greater care and precision.

Unfortunately, continuous rainfall throughout the day affected overall turnout, as some supporters understandably chose to stay indoors. Yet, for those who braved the weather, the experience was seamless, enjoyable, and full of Fortis spirit. Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the exceptional food quality, efficient service, and the lively, welcoming atmosphere, rain and all.

Teamwork on Full Display

One of the standout aspects of the event was the incredible team effort that made it all possible:

Director Wayne "Blaka Pearl" Morris, also known as "Chef Jerky," managed the jerk chicken station and oversaw the overall food process, collaborating with Chef Andrew and Chef Jellico. Together, their leadership and teamwork ensured a smooth and well-organized operation that delivered freshly prepared meals, keeping attendees well-fed and satisfied.

The serving team worked diligently throughout the evening to keep the lines moving, providing fast, friendly service to all who came out.

For the second consecutive year, Director Tyrone Harris showcased his culinary skills, not only adding flavor to the soup and corn but also contributing to the keen sense of teamwork and camaraderie behind the scenes.

At the entrance of the event, Cedric Williams, Devon Hussett, and Royland Gordon played a key role in managing guest flow, ensuring there were no bottlenecks and that everyone was checked in smoothly and efficiently.

Chris Campbell, our connoisseur-in-chief, and his beverage team kept the bar buzzing, offering guests a wide selection of drinks and keeping spirits high throughout the evening.

In preparation for the expected weather, Winston "Ras" Henry, Brian Morrison, and Newell worked tirelessly to secure the tents and maintain a safe, comfortable environment, showcasing true Fortis resilience in the face of the rain.

As always, President Dwayne Montaque provided his steady, guiding hand to ensure the event ran as smoothly as possible, even amid challenging conditions.

And of course, Wilton "Prentice" Williams kept the energy alive, getting the crowd dancing, yes, even in the rain, bringing joy and movement to an otherwise dreary night.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to our host, Earl "Jungle" Forbes, for generously supporting the event for the second year in a row.

Merchandising Team Appreciation

Despite the weather, the Merchandise Team, including Courtney Richardson and me, delivered a strong showing. Many attendees stopped by to view and purchase official KCOBA NY gear, helping to promote our brand and support our fundraising efforts. Next year, should we have Fortis umbrellas for sale if the weather persists?

A special thank you goes to Dr. Paula Morris for her participation in showcasing the merchandise. Your presence and support helped make the Merch section a success, even in less-than-ideal conditions.

Looking Ahead

While there are always lessons to learn and ideas to improve upon, one thing remains clear: we cannot stop the rain, but we can control how we respond. And we did, with dedication, teamwork, and true Fortis pride.

To everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, or supported in any way, thank you. Your continued commitment makes events like this not only possible but truly meaningful.

We are already gearing up for our next major occasion, so be sure to mark your calendars for the

Annual Dance and Awards on May 2, 2026.

Until then, stay safe, stay dry, and stay Fortis!
