Surrounded by his Kingston College colleagues and members of the wider
diaspora community, R. "Perry" Bloomfield was celebrated at the Union of
Jamaican Alumni Associations (USA) Inc. (UJAA) 35th Anniversary Luncheon
Celebration Gala on September 14, 2025. On that day, Bloomfield received the
UJAA Service in Education Award, a recognition of his
steadfast commitment to advancing education, youth empowerment, and
community service.
In his acceptance remarks, Bloomfield credited the Kingston College Old
Boys' Association USA Inc. (KCOBA USA) Board, the wider KC family, and the
many donors and alumni associations who stood with him in building impactful
initiatives. He extended gratitude to partner schools and alumni
groups-including Immaculate Conception, St. Hugh's, Alpha Tri-State Chapter,
St. Hilda's, St. Andrew, St. George's College, St. Jago, Calabar, and
Jamaica College-for working alongside him under his leadership. He also
acknowledged the Jamaican diaspora in New York and beyond for rallying
behind efforts to empower youth.
"I'll accept this award on behalf of every person who helped push the
mission work forward," Bloomfield said. "Let's keep building and keep
investing in youth empowerment."
Bloomfield's journey reflects both personal achievement and a lifelong
devotion to service. A product of Denham Town Primary and Kingston College,
he excelled academically and athletically, particularly in basketball. His
career began at Mutual Security Bank in Jamaica while also playing for the
Braves Basketball Club. After migrating to the United States in 1995, he
pursued higher education, earning a B.S. from York College, a Certificate
from the Wharton School, and a master's degree from the University of
Pennsylvania, where he is now a Senior IT Specialist.
As President of KCOBA USA Inc. from 2011 to 2021, Bloomfield spearheaded
major academic and sports initiatives for his alma mater, ensuring that
Kingston College students had access to resources and opportunities that
would shape their futures. He is best known for his leadership of the
Kingston College Library & Technology Capital Campaign with its
flagship, the Douglas Forrest Building upgrade.
More recently, he founded the Fortis and Friends Foundation
, which is dedicated to improving literacy and numeracy in Jamaican primary
schools.
Bloomfield continues to play an active role in diaspora leadership through
UJAA, championing education and development initiatives that extend far
beyond the walls of Kingston College. His award is not just a personal
accolade but a tribute to the power of collaboration, community, and the
enduring Fortis spirit.
