Over 250 students received free health screening at Kingston College ahead of the start of the new school year, thanks to the generosity of the RuJohn Foundation.

The annual health fair saw student athletes from Kingston College, Clan Carthy High school, Convent of Mercy 'Alpha' Academy, Immaculate Conception High School and Holy Trinity High among others take full advantage of the opportunity. However, the screening was not limited to high school students as a few toddlers were also screened on the day.

The screening included eye exams, height and body weight measurements, blood tests and cardiovascular examinations.

Over a dozen health professionals including doctors and nurses gave of their time freely from 8 am until beyond 4 pm. Some of the doctors are beneficiaries of the RuJohn Foundation scholarships that allowed them to achieve their dreams of becoming doctors themselves.

Dr. Xavier McFarlene gave an overview of the day's activities.

"The annual School Medical Fair spearheaded by RuJohn Foundation in collaboration with Kingston College is a charitable event geared towards giving back to the community in the form of FREE Physical, Medical Examination for fitness for school for high school students.

"We offer examinations, ECG, Blood tests and referrals for additional medical support as necessary.

"The team which was spearheaded by Dr. Ray Fraser and the RuJohn Scholars in association with the KC Old boys and other local and international volunteers (doctors and nurses)."

He expressed his condolences on the passing of the conceptualizer and engine behind the initiative, Ingrid Bachelor.

"As many also would have known by now, shortly after the event Ingrid "Mrs B" Bachelor sadly passed. Naturally, she will be remembered for her dedication to community service, development of youth and unwavering selflessness.

"The annual medical began as a discussion between her and her medical scholars as to ways in which we could contribute to philanthropy after graduating. This is another way we will continue to commemorate her legacy and loving memory of her. May she rest in peace."

McFarlene has committed to continuing and growing the initiative.

It's the 4th staging and it continues to grow immensely each year. We hope to continue to improve and expand to be bigger and better next year God's willing.
